Staffing shortages and rising expenses are among the key challenges facing ambulatory surgery centers as they endeavor to keep up with robust demand for their services while simultaneously preserving their quality of care and bottom line. To support these efforts, TIDI Products offers field-proven, standardized product solutions aimed at saving time, streamlining workflow, and providing clinician confidence.
An excellent example is the Sterile-Z® Patient Drape (shown below). This easy-to-use, transparent barrier is designed to cover the sterile field and protect the intraoperative patient during 3D imaging. Unique Z-fold technology provides a simple method of drape separation that enables a removal process compliant with sterile technique guidelines published by AORN.*
As well as helping to reduce the risk of contamination, this ingenious medical device can improve staff efficiency and save time in the operating room. The patient drape can easily be applied by the surgeon and assistant and then removed by a pair of non-scrubbed individuals, letting the surgeon and assistant continue the surgery without a glove change. Typically, two Sterile-Z Patient Drapes are used per case.
To better assess the impact the Sterile-Z Patient Drape can have in the operating room, TIDI Products conducted a case study over several months at an ambulatory surgery center in Wisconsin. During this period, the ASC used the Sterile-Z Patient Drape product for 14 spine procedures.
A few weeks into the study, we asked nine clinicians at the participating facility to rate their perceptions of the Sterile-Z Patient Drape in respect to a variety of potential performance benefits. Among the items in the survey were evaluative statements regarding time savings, improvements in staff efficiency, and confidence provided by the product. A full 100% of the clinicians expressing an opinion either agreed or strongly agreed with each of the statements below.
Clinician comments from ASC User Survey Round 1: “The best method I have used for a surgeon who wishes to ‘cocoon’ a patient for 3D imaging.” “We used the Sterile-Z [Patient Drape] for cases using the O-arm. The drape worked well as it effectively covers the patient and the spinous process clamp.” “Great product.” |
Later in the study, eight clinicians at the participating ASC were asked to complete another user survey. Similar to the first survey, respondents rated their perceptions of the Sterile-Z Patient Drape product in relation to potential performance benefits, including time savings, improvements in staff efficiency, and confidence provided by the product. Ratings associated with several of the evaluative statements in the survey are presented below.
Clinician comments from ASC User Survey Round 2: “…best, safest method of cocooning I have seen.” “Better coverage, more efficient. Works well.” |
